AA-0428

Tensile Shear Strength

How much force an overlapping joint can withstand before it fails is one of the most important parameters for adhesive bonds in automotive engineering. The BMW company standard AA-0428 describes how tensile shear strength is determined: a lap-joint specimen is pulled apart lengthwise until the joint breaks. The strength is calculated from the maximum force and the overlap area, and the fracture pattern shows where the joint failed. EDAG Testing performs the tensile shear test in accordance with BMW AA-0428 on the test specimens you provide.

Test Scope According to BMW AA-0428

BMW AA-0428 describes how to determine the tensile shear strength of overlapping joints. We test the specimens you provide on a universal testing machine and document force, strength and fracture pattern in accordance with your specification.

Tensile Shear Strength According to BMW AA-0428

In the tensile shear test, a lap-joint specimen is pulled apart lengthwise until it breaks, so that the bonded area is loaded in shear. The tensile shear strength is calculated from the maximum force and the overlap area. The fracture pattern also shows whether the joint fails within the bond layer or at the interface with the adherend.

AA-0428Tensile shear strength (excl. specimen preparation): Tensile shear test on the specimens provided, with determination of maximum force and tensile shear strength and evaluation of the fracture pattern. Specimen preparation is not included and can be requested separately.
