Lighting Systems Testing

Vehicle lighting must deliver precise, uniform, and objectively measurable performance. EDAG Testing validates lighting systems in its in-house lighting laboratory using precise photometric and spectral measurements. The focus is on the objective assessment of function, homogeneity, and photometric performance as a basis for development and validation. This includes goniophotometric far-field measurements with measuring distances of up to 25 metres, luminance measurements to assess homogeneity and visual quality, and spectrometer measurements on light sources and lighting components. The portfolio is complemented by vehicle-level benchmark measurements and virtual validation.

Goniophotometric luminous intensity measurement for individual components

Goniophotometric luminous intensity measurement for individual components

Test to determine the spatial luminous intensity distribution of a luminaire using a goniophotometer

Luminance measurement for individual components

Luminance measurement for individual components

Test determines the brightness of a luminous or illuminated component from a specific viewing direction by measuring the light emitted or reflected by the component per unit area and solid angle

Luminance measurement of the entire vehicle

Luminance measurement of the entire vehicle

Photometric color measurement

Photometric color measurement

Test determines the quantitative color values of the light source using a spectrophotometer or colorimeter

Photometric illuminance measurement

Photometric illuminance measurement

Test quantifies the amount of light falling on a specific area

Photometric reflection measurement (direction dependent - BSDF BRDF BTDF)

Photometric reflection measurement (direction dependent - BSDF BRDF BTDF)

Test measures how a surface reflects light at specific angles (particularly relevant for determining gloss and the appearance of materials)

Photometric reflection measurement (independent of direction)

Photometric reflection measurement (independent of direction)

Test determines the total reflectance of a surface (how much light is diffusely reflected across all spatial directions)

Photometric surface measurement

Photometric surface measurement

Test analysis the optical properties of a material surface, such as gloss, texture, or reflectance using special optics that quantify the scattering and reflection of light
